Today we caught the last Express Bus going to the Metro Station. The bus comes right into the RV Park that we’re staying in. The last Express Bus comes in at 10:00 so that was perfect for us. There are other buses that come but they are the regular type that stop every few blocks. This one took us right to the Metro Station at the University of Maryland.
The Metro is a subway system that goes all over the D.C. area. Once you get the hang of it, it is SO easy and SO convenient. We only had one little boo boo by not getting off at one of our stops. No biggie, we just got on another train going the other way. LOL

We decided today to go to Union Station and do the Double Decker Bus Tour to get a “lay of the land”. Tomorrow we’ll go back to see the things we saw on the tour that seemed interesting to us.
Rod didn’t know that Union Station was a real working train station so I thought maybe there were others that didn’t know this. It’s an Historic building but it’s really a train station and there are people all over the place hauling their luggage around and taking a train somewhere. Amtrak and MARC (Maryland Area Rail Commuter Service) have gates that look just like airport gates.

Most of the blog is going to be pictures of buildings because we didn’t get off and visit the insides of any of them today.

Another thing we found out that we didn’t know is that ALL the Smithsonian Museums are FREE!! This is one we’ll probably be seeing.

Lincoln Memorial. Usually there is a pool in front of the Memorial but it has been leaking for years so they decided to finally drain it and repair it.

I can’t wait to do it all over again tomorrow! Today was so much fun!

I thought of my Canadian friends, Brenda, JB and Sandra when I saw this building. It’s the Canadian Embassy and the ONLY Embassy in the downtown area.

Wow what a great bus tour & awesome photos... Looks like it goes to everything. Several years ago we took the train from Florida into Union Station and spent 2 nights in DC. Didn't get to really visit muc one museum and the veterans wall. That's why we are heading back next spring. Have fun and will be waiting for more photos of what you see & do!
