Meandering Around The South

I can’t believe it’s been this long since I’ve done a blog!!  It’s just been so easy to put updates on Facebook that I’ve neglected my blog.  Sorry to all those that don’t follow on Facebook.  I’ll just do a quick synopsis of where we’ve been because we are now in Washington, D.C. and I’ll try to update a lot more.

The last I wrote we were in Mississippi.  We spent a few weeks there seeing a few of the sites.

We left Mississippi and headed for Red Bay, Alabama to the Tiffin Motorhome factory and service center.  We had a few small repairs to attend to and some modifications we wanted to have done.

All the windows in the front were replaced due to the seals having gone bad for the double pane windows.

Our motorhome came with a booth dinette that we wanted removed and replaced with cabinets.  Chris Berry Woodworks did the work and we’re SOOOO happy with the results.  He also put in a few shelves for some cabinets we had that had a lot of wasted space.

We also had screens and shades put on in the front and sides for privacy and to keep the heat out.  I didn’t like the drapes that came with our motorhome.

We did manage to get in a little site seeing while we were waiting for work to be done.

After we got all our work done we headed north to Tennessee to meet up with one of my cyber friends, Lisa in Carthage.  What an incredibly special family they are!  We had a nice but SHORT visit with her and her family while we stayed at Defeated Creek Corp of Engineer campground.

From there we headed to Louisville, Kentucky to have a visit with our friends, Steve & Lisa.  They graciously let us stay in their back driveway with full hookups with 50 amps!!  Imagine that!  We had a really nice visit but soon had to continue our trip east

After leaving Louisville we stopped just over the border in West Virginia in Huntington at a really nice State Park for a few days.

From there we headed to Virginia.  We stayed at Endless Caverns RV Park so, of course we had to visit the caverns.

And we had to take the drive through Shenandoah National Park.

Virginia is so steeped in history and there are SEVERAL museums and battlefields to explore.  We know that we need to come back when we have more time.  We only visited one museum and battlefield in the immediate area.  Unfortunately, when we came out of the museum it was raining so we couldn’t get out and look at the battlefield.

So, we left Virginia this morning and drove 130 miles to College Park, Maryland where we’ll spend the next 18 days exploring Washington, D.C.
