The Cabin In The Woods

Friday we went out to dinner with Ed & Mary Jo who showed up for a few days.  We went to the Pagoda Restaurant.  Guy Fieri from the Food Network was here one time for his show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  This was one of the restaurants he visited.  The food was really good and the service incredibly fast.  Boy, they really get people in and out and it’s a good thing because it was packed!!

Saturday we met up with Rowdy & Missy and headed out to their cabin to spend the night.  After fortifying ourselves with snacks the boys set out to shingle the sauna room.  Rod has done many a roof before so they were done in no time.

Then we went down to the river to soak up some sun and do a little fishing.  Missy’s 2 daughters and friends also went down to the river.  Jessica is the only one who caught anything and that didn’t really even count because it was a minnow.

Abby loves to swim in the river and is a really good swimmer

Louie can’t swim so he just stood on shore and barked at Abby

Rowdy even tried panning for gold.  Can you see the nugget??

With fishing all done Missy set up a croquet course.  It was very interesting because you had to go over tree branches, ricochet off rock piles and even a beer can.  Part of the course even included having to hit your ball under Rowdy’s truck.  Nobody won because nobody could get past the “rough” at the end and Rowdy called us all for dinner.  He made beer can chicken, baked potatoes and corn on the cob.  Yummy!!

After dinner it was time to sit around the campfire.

Then after the kids left and we had enough to drink and it got dark  it was time for a dip in the hot tub.  It’s wood powered!

After a very slow start the next day Missy & Rowdy combined to make us a great breakfast.  Then we were off for a ride on their four wheelers.  We drove up the side of a hill to a very nice spot.  Some guy even brought a picnic table and left it there.  He goes up there to spot for moose during hunting season.

When we got back to the cabin Missy tried one more time to catch a fish but they weren’t biting.

After getting everything packed up we said our good-byes and headed back to our RV.  On the way back we finally spotted a bull moose!

We continued on down the road when a moose jumped out from behind the bushes and stopped in her tracks when she saw us.  The force of her stopping made her stumble and fall on the road.  She got up and looked at us like it was our fault.  We knew we didn’t hit her but we got out of there in a hurry.  I’m sure if she thought she could catch us she would have run after us.  That made the third moose we saw in one day!

Tonight we’re meeting up at the Silver Gulch Brewery for some dinner on our last night here in Fairbanks.  We’re really sad to leave but we have some unbelievable memories from here and some amazing new friends.  Thank you, Missy & Rowdy for a fantastic week and a half!!

I guess this doesn’t apply since I just told you everything…

Love the pictures of the moose. They are my favorite to see in the wild. Cabin is very pretty.
