Sixth Day in Washington, D.C.

Today we headed out to the Metro into town to finish up the Natural History Museum.  What a difference a day makes.  The weekend weather was perfect but today was a hot, muggy day.  Good thing is all the workers were already gone.  Bad thing is we had to park all the way up on the 6th floor.  It’s okay because no matter where you park you still have to take the elevator unless you’re lucky enough to find a spot on the 1st floor.

The crowds at the museum weren’t anywhere near what they were on the weekend.  A few groups of kids with their summer camp but not the large groups we encountered before.

We needed to finish the Gems & Minerals gallery and this time Rod went out to sit on a bench and wait for ME!!  LOL, I LOVED looking at the jewelry!!  Gosh, it was SO hard trying to pick which pictures I was going to post.  They were ALL so pretty!!

We also had to go through the bug exhibit.  Uggghhh, gross!  Rod held one of the nasty worms.

There was also a butterfly exhibit with live butterflies.  I didn’t take the time to look up what they’re called but I LOVE butterflies!

This one was drinking the cantaloupe juice

This one wouldn’t open it wings so the volunteer there urged it a little bit with the brush.

Then we went through the Mummy and Forensic Science Gallery

This is a real mummy!

At first I thought this was the hind end of some animal but on further inspection (and reading) I found it it’s a walrus!  LOL

Finally after our third trip we finished this museum.

Then it was on to the Air and Space Museum.

From there we headed to the cafeteria for dinner before going home on the Metro.  We finally figured out that we go to the very front of the train there’s hardly anybody there.  Everybody waits at the middle of the platform and they all pile in.  LOL

After uploading 293 pictures from today it was really hard trying to decide which ones to post.

WOW - You really are getting the most out of DC! What a great trip! We took the boys a couple of years ago, but only spent 1 or 2 days in the city . . . I think we did three museums in one day! We definitely will go the more liesurely route if (when) we go back!

Do you have a favorite museum yet? Just reading your blog, is making me exhausted and reminds me how I felt when we last did it...So much history though, love it!
